The Chinese defence ministry announced on Wednesday that Chinese military personnel will deploy to Russia to participate in joint military drills with Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and other nations.
China's
participation in the joint drills, according to a statement from the ministry,
was "unrelated to the present international and regional
circumstances." According to China's defence ministry, these countries
include India, Belarus, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and others.

Moscow
declared last month that it would perform "Vostok" (East) drills from
August 30 to September 5, although it is fighting a costly war in Ukraine. It
was stated at that time that some foreign forces would take it apart.
Chinese and Russian
According
to China's defence ministry, its involvement in the drills was a requirement of
a continuing bilateral cooperation agreement with Russia.
The
goal is to develop friendly and practical cooperation with the militaries of
participating nations and increase the degree of strategic cooperation among
the participating parties to build the capacity to respond to diverse security
challenges.
Beijing
and Moscow have gotten closer. The Chinese President Xi Jinping and his
Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Last
month, almost 10,000 soldiers participated in joint military drills between
China and Russia in north-central China. Sergei Shoigu, the minister of defence
of Russia, lauded the Sibu/Cooperation-2021 exercises in China's Ningxia region
and urged they be expanded.
The first
coordinated patrols with Chinese and Russian vessels were conducted in the
western Pacific a few days later.
The
South Korean military claimed to have scrambled fighter jets the next month
after two Chinese and seven Russian aircraft violated its air defence
identification.
